Malfroy is Sunsmart

Last Tuesday we did a presentation to our school assembly.

We wanted to promote being sunsmart and showed a powerpoint of types of melanoma and what sunburn can do to our skin.

We think showing the pictures was a good idea because they were real and kids dont want to get melanoma after seeing these pictures.

We also told them to slip, slop, slap and wrap.

Kai at the Right Price

A new project is being run in Western Heights and Mangakino communities over the next few months. Kai at the right price is a project to ensure families have access to quality fresh produce at an affordable price.

Here's how it works - the shop that is involved offers two different size packs every week, which will contain a selection of fresh, seasonal produce. These will always be priced at either $10 or $15. On a given day the buyer picks up their re-usable bag with their produce.

For Western Heights contact Produce Plus on 07 349 1207

For Mangakino contact Mangakino Four Square on 07 882 8122

Nerves

LAST ASSEMBLY I SANG A SONG. I MADE IT UP ON THE GUITAR AND I MADE WORDS FOR IT.

Sun Safety

This year at HPS we have been talking about sun safety and blogs. This year I have learnt more about sun safety and we have met new people throughout the year and that has been cool. Next I hope that Whaea Donna could explain more so that I can learn more about HPS .

HPS

Last year for health promoting we have been doing a lot of interesting things. We had lots of fundraisers like discos, pj day, wacky hair day, pirate day and much more. Today we had to brain storm some things that we wanted to do about our school and we want to make a lot of changes..... and today we had a hps hui where other schools came and we did work. We also learnt about sun smart safety.

Our new canteen

When I heard that we were getting a new canteen I was like ''Mmmm'' so that day when it started I went to go and order my lunch and was happy and full of joy. At lunch time I went to go and get my lunch but I couldn't because the whole kitchen was full of kids that were hungry. On the way when I was walking to my friends I was like "YUMMY" for my lunch I had hot chips and delicious tender hotdogs.

...THE END...

Today we are having a HPS hui.

We leart about cancer and the name of types of cancer.
We did a brain storm about how we could be more sun smart or road safe.
We also wrote some ideas for the sun safe competion. For example we want it to be funny and humorous. The main thing is we want a shade over the little park.

Drinking Fountains.

Three weeks ago our class has been doing a project on R.P.S Drinking Fountains because the state of them are not nice.

So our group, Brandon, Jamie, Kawa and Saiasi have done a project about our gross drinking fountains at our school.

We did a survey on behalf of the school and none of the people would drink out of the fountains. People said to get a water cooler in our survey and that is what happend. Thank you

sun safety

We need to wear sun hats and sunblock and to not get skin cancer.
At our school, Mountview Primary, we're trying to be sun smart in our school. In our school we are trying to build tents and lots of shade. We need to help people to not get sunburnt so there isn't a chance they will get skin cancer.

gardens

At Malfroy we have been growing plants since last year. We have grown strawberries, beetroot, asparagus and beans. We have lots of gardens around the school. Room10 always

waters the garden after morning tea and after lunch. Mr Francis is proud of the effort that

we have put into the gardens.

Gardining down at Ohinemutu

Down at Ohinemutu we do gardening because it's part of our learning and our topic.

Every Thursday and Friday we go down to Ohinemutu to learn about compost, fertilizer and planting plants. After we do all these jobs, we get to have free lunch but before that we have to do lots of jobs and also taking some pictures.

I predict in the future we will be great at planting.

The End.

sunsmart

Last week we had cross country with the primary schools. We did not have sunscreen with us. We didn't have shade. Mrs Kemp will provide us some sunsceren and shade next time.

Information on Sun Smart

Diffrent types of cancer

Melanoma

Squameas

Basal cell

The UVB and UVA rays come from the sun and they are present even if you can't see them.

If you get burnt when you're young when you get older you could get cancer which no-one likes.

It is best to wear bucket hats and brimmed hats becasue they can cover you from the sun.
